Amy Morton on Platt’s emotional Chicago P.D. Season 13 episode
Nbc reported that Chicago P.D. Season 13’s episode "Heroes" focuses on Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) as she leaves the precinct to investigate the mysterious death of her former recruit, Narcotic Officer Robbie McKay. Morton said the episode was a major spotlight for her: "It was a big deal for me, quite frankly, I mean, I haven't had an episode this large in many years.
So it was really exciting, and I was scared sh**less, I'm not gonna lie." After performing a wellness check, Platt found McKay dead from a gunshot to the head. When the bullet was connected to McKay’s service weapon, homicide detectives ruled the death a suicide, a conclusion that initially mystified the skeptical Platt because she had been laughing with McKay the night before.
Platt feared he had been killed amid a large-scale drug trafficking case he was investigating, but evidence later indicated he had taken his own life and led Kim Burgess to help Platt gain clarity. The episode’s emotional climax comes when Burgess tells Platt she found McKay’s phone with a video message that served as a suicide note; Platt watches and says, "I thought I knew him," and Burgess replies, "Because he didn't want you to, Trudy." Burgess counsels Platt that McKay was hurting and that his legacy as a good cop remains the same, even as Platt struggles with denial.
