Amy Redford, daughter of the late actor Robert Redford, reflected on her father's role as a parent during an appearance on Today on Monday, Jan. 19, People reports.

She described him as “playful and curious and kind,” and said he taught his children “to find the thing that we're most passionate about and the things that we think might be able to change the world.” She called the “best thing” he did for the family raising them “between New York City and the mountains of Sundance,” saying they lived “between the city and in natural law” and that he taught them “a very strong value of stewardship.”

Amy also spoke about the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, set to kick off on Thursday, Jan. 22, the first festival since her father's death. Of the festival’s origins she said, “if you tell him not to do it, that just means it hasn’t been done yet,” and that he used his platform because there were “so many stories out there that needed to be told that weren't being told.”

Robert Redford died at the age of 89 at his home in Sundance, Utah, on Sept. 16, 2025. Following his death, Amy criticized AI-generated tributes and fabricated family quotes on social media, saying such renderings were “extra challenging during a difficult time,” and she thanked fans for their “overwhelming love and support.”
