Ange Postecoglou admits Nottingham Forest move came 'too soon'
Ange Postecoglou has conceded that taking the head coach role at Nottingham Forest was a mistake, saying the move came "too soon" after his sacking at Tottenham. The Australian was dismissed by owner Evangelos Marinakis following a dismal 39-day winless run. His exit from Spurs came just weeks after he ended the club's 17-year wait for silverware by lifting the Europa League trophy, and he says returning to management so quickly was ill-fated.
Speaking on The Overlap podcast, Postecoglou took responsibility: "The whole Forest situation was on me. It was, I think, a case of being careful what you wish for. It was a bad decision by me to go in there, and I've got to take ownership of that. There's no point blaming timing or circumstances - I should never have gone in.
It was too soon after Tottenham." He added that it was the first time he hadn't worked in 20-odd years and that he felt lost in the off-season. His brief tenure of eight matches was marked by a lack of connection with the squad and the hierarchy.
