A short trailer for Animora, an upcoming fan-made Fortnite experience, has racked up millions of views and left many viewers surprised at how closely it resembles popular fantasy RPGs. Animora launched from work in the Unreal Editor for Fortnite, which Epic released a couple of years ago but which has produced few breakout fan projects so far.

The trailer has drawn people comparing the map to World of Warcraft and Genshin Impact, and Epic Games is promoting it as "built different." One viral post on X saying, "They're making mmos in Fortnite wtf," reportedly reached 2.6 million views, and the trailer itself has drawn about 5.6 million clicks.

Many reactions express disbelief at Animora's likeness to Hoyoverse's Genshin Impact, with creators making side-by-side comparison videos and some users speculating about potential legal issues. The map's developer, Augartistt, has been transparent about using a purchased asset pack marketed as a "stylized medieval village" and says the artwork appears to be made from scratch.

Augartistt also says they are building a distinct game with its own progression system, loot, companions, co-op functionality and some card-based mechanics. The attention to Animora follows other controversies over resemblance in game design — the most popular Fortnite map is currently a direct copy of a major Roblox game, and Genshin Impact's early reveal drew criticism for similarities to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
