Anne Burrell 'never talked' about suicide or showed warning signs
Stuart Claxton told the New York Police Department that his wife, Anne Burrell, "has never attempted suicide in the past and has never talked about it." He said he had not witnessed "any signs that she would do something like this" and that she did not have any "medical conditions." Claxton, who married Burrell in 2001, found her unconscious on their shower floor on June 17, 2025; emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Investigators found a note dated June 17, 2025 described as suicidal, along with journal entries labeled suicidal in the main bedroom of the Brooklyn home. A month after her death, the New York City medical examiner ruled the death a suicide, listing "acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine" as the cause.
Friends and colleagues recalled recent contact.
