Anthony Gordon joins Harry Kane in exclusive Champions League club
Anthony Gordon scored four times in the first half as Newcastle defeated Qarabag 6-1 in the Champions League knockout round play-off first leg in Baku. He opened the scoring in the third minute with a well-taken finish, Malick Thiaw added a header to make it 2-0, then Gordon converted a 32nd-minute penalty and finished a clean break moments later before slotting home a second spot-kick past goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski.
After the interval Elvin Jafarquliyev pulled one back for Qarabag, and Jacob Murphy added the final goal as Newcastle ran out 6-1 winners. The result effectively sealed Eddie Howe's side's place in the next round with more than a game still to play. The quadruple takes Gordon into the same group as England captain Harry Kane, who became the first English player to score nine or more goals in a single Champions League season when he netted 11 last term.
