Respawn announced that Apex Legends will be removed from the original Nintendo Switch when Season 30 begins on Aug. 4, with Season 29 serving as the game’s final update on the platform, the studio said via the official Apex Legends X account. The post said players will still be able to play the game and purchase Apex Coins on the Switch until Aug.
4, after which the game will become unavailable on the original console. Respawn confirmed future seasons will continue to be available on Nintendo Switch 2 and that support on all other platforms will also continue. Respawn noted any in-game currency purchased via Switch is tied to players’ EA accounts and will be accessible on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows PC versions of the game.
In its statement, Respawn wrote, “We are deeply grateful to the Nintendo community that has been with us on this journey since Day 1, and we hope to see you on the Dropship on Nintendo Switch 2.” The studio added that as it evolves Apex Legends’ content and technical foundation, its goal is to “deliver a high quality experience,” and praised Nintendo’s investment in the Nintendo Switch 2 as offering a great handheld experience for the title.
Switch players reacted strongly on social media, with some upset about losing a portable option and others supportive of developers discontinuing last-gen support.
