Apple TV's Cosmere Deal Gives Sanderson Unprecedented Control
Collider reports that Apple TV has acquired the rights to Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere and struck a deal naming Sanderson the universe's "architect," granting him roles as writer, producer and consultant along with rights of approval. Sanderson will write the Mistborn script, with a planned theatrical release ahead of a show based on The Stormlight Archive, and Apple intends to adapt several of the author's most popular stories up front to build a larger shared universe.
Sanderson has described Apple as a creator-driven partner focused on quality, a selling point that influenced his choice. Sanderson has long been cautious about adaptations, and a 2025 attempt to adapt Mistborn failed over creative differences. He also served as a consulting producer on Prime Video's The Wheel of Time and said he was not meaningfully involved; he has warned that streaming has struggled with epic fantasy.
