Armed robbers steal $100,000 in Pokémon merchandise from Manhattan store
PC Gamer reported that NBC said armed robbers took what store owner Courtney Chin estimates is $100,000 in merchandise from the Poké Court on 13th Street in Manhattan during a January 14 robbery.
No one was hurt, but the trio brandished handguns and smashed open several display cases full of merchandise, and the thieves remain at large.
The report noted rare and valuable trading cards can fetch outsized prices — citing examples such as a Magic card reportedly worth a million dollars, a $30,000 trade-in of a Gengar at GameStop, and a collector called the "Kabuto King" seeking first editions — which helps explain why such thefts occur. Beyond the owner’s estimate and the account of the incident, details about suspects and recovery of the merchandise have not been reported.
