Japanese fans say Armored Core 6 plays like an otome game

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon has its admirers. In Japan, fans have declared FromSoftware's 2023 mecha shooter an otome game, even if its post-apocalypse wasteland lacks the thigh-high boots of titles like Stellar Blade and some might not see romance in a chunky man made of steel.

Automaton translated several posts supporting the idea. Traditional otome games such as Piofiore or Love & Deepspace typically cast the player as a woman pursued by many handsome, flawless men. At first glance, a stern robot game about being a laser-blasting mercenary doesn't look similar.

Fans point to the Augmented Human Rusty as the reason the game fits the genre. One translated post reads: "As an otome game player who was forced to play AC6, my impression is that it's an otome game," "Rusty is literally the typical guy from an otome game.
