Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Classic 1980s Action Thriller Is Free This Month
Raw Deal, the 1986 noir-tinged action thriller that pushed Arnold Schwarzenegger beyond his usual muscle‑hero image, is streaming for free on Tubi this month. Directed by John Irvin from a script by Gary DeVore and Norman Wexler, the film was made on a $10 million budget and grossed $16 million worldwide, a rare box‑office disappointment for Schwarzenegger at the time.
Schwarzenegger later said working with Irvin, "a real actor's director," greatly improved his acting skills. Schwarzenegger plays Mark Kaminski, a former FBI agent turned small‑town sheriff who infiltrates the Chicago underworld as Joseph P. Brenner to help his mentor Harry Shannon avenge a son killed after a mole leaked FBI secrets.
The case pulls him into conflicts with prosecutor Marvin Baxter and entanglements involving an alcoholic wife, a femme fatale and a hard‑boiled cop, with mob figures portrayed by Sam Wanamaker, Steven Hill and Robert Davi.
