Arsenal ready to join Man City in pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi
Goal reports Arsenal are prepared to enter the transfer race for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, with Manchester City among the favourites. Guehi had appeared set to join Liverpool last summer after a £35m fee was agreed and he completed a medical, but Palace pulled the plug because they could not find a defensive replacement and he remained at Selhurst Park.
Palace chairman Steve Parish told Men in Blazers that the club needed to keep Guehi to avoid slipping into a relegation fight and praised the player for his reaction after the collapsed move, saying "It was a very marginal call" and that Guehi had been "great about it as a person." Manchester City have been keeping tabs amid injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, but Palace boss Oliver Glasner told Sky Sports he thinks "Marc will stay" while conceding a big offer could change that if the player wants to leave.
With Guehi set to run down his contract and become a free agent this summer, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also said to be tracking him. The Mirror claims Arsenal are prepared to enter the race, though City remain favourites, and that Palace would demand a "huge offer" in the region of £40m to sell him this month. It remains unclear whether Arsenal will bid in January or wait until the summer; for now Guehi may be focused on Palace's FA Cup trip to Macclesfield on Saturday.
