Kick-off was at 12pm at the Emirates, with over 40,000 fans expected. Arsenal sit fourth and are unbeaten at home this season, but remain 13 points behind league leaders Manchester City. Renée Slegers praised the fans' resilience, saying they were "just as mentally strong as the players" and that their support fuelled the team.

Andrée Jeglertz, nominated for the manager of the month award for January after wins in October, November and December, said he had not expected the club's position so soon but that the side approaches every game aiming to win. Arsenal kicked from left to right.

In the opening minutes Vivianne Miedema struck from about 25 yards and sent the ball past the post; Caitlin Foord beat Kerstin Casparij and crossed but no one converted; and Bunny Shaw was played through for Manchester City but could not control the ball as Arsenal cleared.
