Aston Villa can set club record with 12th straight home win against Everton
Aston Villa host Everton at Villa Park in the Premier League, and a victory would give Villa a new club record of 12 consecutive home wins; their previous mark of 11 dated to 1983 under Tony Barton.
The fixture carries extra significance after Arsenal and Manchester City dropped points yesterday: avoiding defeat would send Villa above City into second, while a win would take them to within four points of leaders Arsenal. Unai Emery said this week: “We are not feeling something extra, we are feeling we need three points. Maybe we can get some new target for winning our matches in a row, but the priority is to win. If we are winning, we are achieving [the record]. It’s not the mentality we have. The mentality we have is to focus on each match with the points we have and the competition we’re facing and to get the points we need for our consistency in the top positions in the Premier League.”
Team changes include Youri Tielemans replacing the injured Boubacar Kamara and Ollie Watkins starting in place of Donyell Malen for Villa; Thierno Barry replaces Beto and Jack Grealish returns for Everton, while Michael Keane is serving the second of a three-match ban. Fan Dave Slater predicted a 2-1 Villa win, but the outcome of the match — and whether Villa will set the record — remains to be decided today.
