Avatar 3 Box Office Trails Zootopia 2, Minecraft and Lilo & Stitch
Avatar: Fire & Ash has been a global sensation, but its U.S. box office trails three 2025 releases. It sits at $397 million domestically and needs more than $20 million to reach the top three for the year, placing it behind Zootopia 2 ($420.6 million), Lilo & Stitch ($423.8 million) and A Minecraft Movie ($424 million).
On the global charts the film has fared better, ranking only behind Zootopia 2 ($1.8 billion) and Ne Zha 2 ($2 billion). Walt Disney Pictures likely sees the performance as acceptable given the studio’s recent focus on international appeal, and having three of the top four domestic earners is notable.
Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 already have release dates in December 2029 and December 2031, and the earlier sequels were filmed back-to-back, making similar scheduling for the next two likely. James Cameron acknowledged the financial calculus, saying, "I have no doubt in my mind that this movie will make money.
