Good RPG crafting systems are rare. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is an exception, making alchemy and blacksmithing tactile and engaging. Otherwise, crafting often feels like pointless busywork — and many Avowed players seemed to feel the same way.
At launch, Avowed's upgrade system drew substantial criticism. Players had to use upgrade materials to keep their favourite weapons and bits of armour viable while exploring new areas.
In many RPGs crafting is optional, but Avowed makes it mandatory. Requiring players to engage with the system led to clear frustration.
