Barry Keoghan debuts Ringo Starr mop-top at London premiere ahead of Beatles biopic
Barry Keoghan, the 33-year-old Saltburn actor, showed off a Ringo Starr–inspired mop-top hairstyle Wednesday at the London premiere of his new film Crime 101 as he prepares to play the Beatles’ drummer in Sam Mendes’ upcoming biopic. Keoghan stepped out at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square with a long mop-top reminiscent of Starr’s early Beatles look, trading his usual shorter brunette hair for the style and wearing a leather racing jacket and matching pants with a green-and-white face-covering scarf from MAINS.
Mendes’ project, titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, will consist of four films each centering on a different band member and is slated for release in April 2028. Keoghan is set to play Ringo Starr; Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon, Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney and Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison.
Other confirmed cast members include Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Harry Lloyd as George Martin and James Norton as Brian Epstein. Mendes told CinemaCon in March 2025, “We’re not just making one film about the Beatles — we’re making four,” adding that the format was a way to tell the epic story for a new generation.
Starr himself previously gave Keoghan’s casting his blessing, telling Entertainment Tonight in December 2024, “I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons. I hope not too many!” Keoghan has said of his transformation on BBC’s Radio 1 Breakfast show in July 2025, “It’s great.
