Bayern weigh Neuer extension as Eberl demands top-level performance — Goal

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has set a clear condition for Manuel Neuer’s future at the Allianz Arena as the goalkeeper’s contract approaches expiry in 2026. Eberl stressed that sentiment will not decide the matter and that Neuer, at almost 40, must continue to perform at a top level to earn a new deal: "He must be capable of performing at a top level – just as he currently is.

That would also have to be the case in the coming season." The club wants an honest conversation about the veteran’s motivation and whether he sees himself able to deliver for another year. Neuer has suggested he will think about the issue toward the end of the season, while debate continues in Germany about calls for an extension and even suggestions of a national team return amid concerns over Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Meanwhile, Bayern are planning for the long term. The emergence of Jonas Urbig gives them an internal succession option, with Neuer reportedly involved in the younger keeper’s development.
