BBC’s new 'Lord of the Flies' teaser released — full series on iPlayer Feb 8
A first teaser trailer for the new adaptation of Lord of the Flies has been released online, and the series will drop in full on BBC iPlayer on Sunday, February 8, with BBC One airing episodes weekly on Sundays at 9 p.m., the BBC has announced.
The 40-second teaser offers a brief, reportedly faithful look at William Golding’s story, with the last 20 seconds hinting at the dark descent into tribalism that the novel charts.
The trailer highlights a large ensemble of boys portraying stranded British schoolboys, with Winston Sawyers shown as Ralph, David McKenna as Piggy and Lox Pratt as Jack.
Writer Jack Thorne penned the adaptation; the article notes Thorne recently earned significant acclaim for his series Adolescence, which took home eight Emmy Awards at the 77th broadcast in September of last year.
The series is produced by Eleven, a production company owned by Sony, and Sony Television will handle international distribution. The article says no U.S. streaming deals have been solidified or revealed so far.
Viewers in the U.K. can watch all four episodes on BBC iPlayer starting Feb. 8 and weekly on BBC One; the timing and platforms for an international or U.S. release remain unclear, and MovieWeb suggested it "would be unsurprising" if the series later appeared on Netflix given Sony’s recent dealings.
