Bear Grylls says he bought an 'apocalypse' steel‑hulled, weapon‑equipped boat

Bear Grylls, 51, said he has bought an "apocalypse escape vessel" — a steel‑hulled, ice‑capable sailing boat for his family that he described as "armed with an array of weaponry."

He said the boat has almost zero electronics and is manually operated throughout. Born in Northern Ireland, Grylls served as a soldier in the 21 SAS regiment and went on to star in adventure series including seven seasons of Discovery Channel’s Man vs Wild; his other shows include Running Wild With Bear Grylls, the Emmy‑winning You vs Wild and the BAFTA‑winning The Island With Bear Grylls.

Grylls is married with three sons and lives in London, north Wales and Switzerland. His new series, Wild Reckoning, starts on BBC One next month, and he said his most treasured possession is his old SAS beret.
