Begraved: Valheim devs' spare-time first-person co-op dungeon crawler
Three developers from Valheim have been working "in the evenings and on weekends" on a new game called Begraved, and a demo has landed on Steam.
Begraved is a first-person co-op dungeon-crawler for up to five players with proximity voice chat. Players become Gravebound, looting procedurally generated tombs, selling stolen treasures to a shopkeeper, and racing to earn enough before the Taxman arrives. You also have a hideout to store or display what you don't sell.
One notable mechanic forces you to carry large items in both hands, which complicates holding a torch or a weapon while fleeing danger. A brief solo session ended badly when a torch burned out and traps and a waking spirit finished the player.
The game is being made by a small studio, Grip Jaw, which includes Valheim's Robin Eyre, Emilia Oscarsson and Andreas Tomasson. Grip Jaw says Begraved is "fully independent" and not being published by Coffee Stain. There's no launch date yet, but the team plans to release in early access.
