Bel's Fanfare: Chibig's N64-inspired Zelda-like RPG
Spain-based studio Chibig, best known for Mika and the Witch's Mountain, has revealed Bel's Fanfare, a Zelda-like RPG with clear N64-era inspiration that quickly found success on Kickstarter — the campaign reached 600% of its goal in three days and has more than 10 times its target, with over $500,000 pledged.
The story centers on a once-prestigious magical ship called The Witch of the Sea, now plagued by a force called aura. Players take the role of the daughter of the ship's stoker, tasked with cleansing the vessel of this corrupting presence. The game leans Ghibli-esque in tone while keeping its own distinct, slightly oddball personality.
Visually and musically it nods to N64-era Zelda, featuring exaggerated character designs and whimsical orchestral music. Gameplay descriptions evoke Luigi's Mansion: you explore the entire ship, cleanse rooms of aura and face hostile encounters that require combat.
