England captain Ben Stokes limped from the field with a groin injury in the final Test, Independent.co reported.

Stokes, who has been his side’s most reliable bowling option on a difficult tour, pulled up after 10 balls on the fourth morning and departed for the dressing room mid‑over. A team spokesperson later confirmed a groin issue, issuing a short statement that read: “Ben Stokes is currently being assessed for a right adductor complaint. We will provide an update when more information is available.”

He will almost certainly be required to bat, with Australia leading by 183 after being bowled out for 567, but whether he feels able to take his usual number six spot remains to be seen.

The 34‑year‑old becomes the fourth English seamer to break down during the campaign after Mark Wood (knee), Jofra Archer (side) and Gus Atkinson (hamstring), with Atkinson leaving ahead of the series finale in Sydney. Earlier, after England took the last three Australia wickets inside an hour, opener Zak Crawley fell lbw in the first over of the second innings to Mitchell Starc.
