Best coffee machines in the UK for every home and budget, tested by our expert

Everyone has an opinion on coffee, so the idea of a single best machine is fanciful. I’ve spent the past year researching and trialling coffee machines to produce a shortlist of tried-and-tested recommendations that spans manual espresso, filter, bean-to-cup and capsule models.

This guide is aimed at everyday coffee lovers who want to up their game without spending a fortune or losing hours to perfecting their craft. Ease of use, simplicity and relative affordability play just as important a role as the quality of the coffee. I tested (or retested) 29 machines and drew on more than seven years as the resident coffee bore at an expert product-testing publication.

Each model was run alongside my go-to machines for side-by-side taste and usability testing; I used several kilos of fresh beans, Nespresso-compatible pods and my own grinders where machines lacked an integrated grinder. After testing, machines sourced for this article were either returned or donated to Well Wishers.
