Ubisoft announced a major restructuring this week that included massive layoffs, studio closures and the cancellation of multiple projects, but Beyond Good & Evil 2 is not among the cut titles, creative director Fawzi Mesmar said on LinkedIn.

Mesmar wrote that he is "saddened by the cancellations that ha[ve] affected my colleagues" and urged people to offer support. He added that the team "remain committed and focused on delivering a remarkable game for our players to enjoy." The post was accompanied by key art from the project.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been in development in various forms for nearly 20 years. It began in Montpellier in 2007 under series creator Michel Ancel with much of the original team, was re-announced in 2017 with a concept trailer, and had 25 minutes of footage shown in 2018 before disappearing from view again.

The project has faced multiple setbacks: Ancel left Ubisoft in 2020 following allegations about a toxic work environment (which he denied) to work at an animal sanctuary, and creative lead Emil Morel died in 2023. Ubisoft has continued to dripfeed information and included nods to the project in the original game's 20th anniversary edition.

Despite Mesmar's reassurance, the game still lacks a release date and "has serious questions to answer," according to the report, so its long-term timetable remains unclear.
