The creator of The Binding of Isaac delivers a sprawling, surprising roguelike
Mewgenics is a turn-based tactical roguelike where you breed cats and send four of them on expeditions. You assign familiar classes—fighter, mage, cleric—and then guide the party across a simple overland map full of shops, events, and grid-based encounters. The core loop of adventuring, returning with loot or losses, and managing the household to raise the next generation keeps runs compelling.
Fights play out on small grids with directional abilities: each class provides a basic attack, up to four mana-limited spells, two passive slots, and equipment bonuses. Battles are quick and accessible, avoiding a steep learning curve, but they lean into chaos; enemy behaviours and randomised elements can abruptly derail a run with instant deaths or debilitating diseases, making outcomes feel unpredictable rather than precise.
Co-developed by Edmund McMillen, the game carries the same love of randomisation and emergent drama as his previous work.
