Birkenstock and Danielle Frankel to unveil bridal sandal collection
Danielle Frankel and Birkenstock will unveil a bridal shoe collection on Feb. 12. The six reworked styles will be sold on their websites and in select stores. The ready-to-wear collection includes Madrid sandals with slender ties, Arizonas in ivory satin and Tulums adorned with pearls.
Two custom pieces — a hand-painted Boston clog and an Arizona sandal embroidered with wispy chiffon blooms — will be made on request. Prices for the ready-to-wear sandals range from $660 to $950; custom styles vary. Ms. Frankel Hirsch employed artisanal techniques from her New York City atelier, incorporating pearls, handworked cords and couture trims, and said the bottoms of each shoe are inspired by a pattern from her brand’s lace fabrics.
The shoes are made in Birkenstock’s German factories. Danielle Frankel also created a collection of five gowns and one suit to match the shoes. Ms. Frankel Hirsch, who founded the bridal brand Danielle Frankel in 2017, said she began by asking, "What if Birkenstock was a bridal shoe?
What does that look like?" She and her husband, Joshua Hirsch, are lifelong Birkenstock fans; he owns seven pairs and she owns five. Mr. Hirsch said he had gotten his first pair as a child from Tip Top Shoes on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a detail he mentioned in a cold email to David Kahan, the president and managing director of Birkenstock Americas, three years ago.
