Black Lagoon Returns to Digital Streaming 20 Years On
One of the most iconic cult action series of the 2000s is making an unexpected comeback on digital streaming. Black Lagoon is available to purchase digitally on iTunes and other online platforms, and 20 years after its debut many viewers are revisiting the series; at the time of writing it ranks 13th most popular on iTunes.
The anime is adapted from Rei Hiroe's manga and was produced by Madhouse, first released in 2006. It follows Rokuro Okajima, a timid businessman who is kidnapped during a work trip and, when his company refuses to pay the ransom, joins the pirate mercenaries known as the Lagoon Company.
The show is known for relentless action and a Tarantino-esque style — the second episode famously sees the crew sail a boat up a ramp and launch it into the air to take out an attack helicopter. Audiences have praised the series: it holds an 89% user score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.03 rating on MyAnimeList.
