Jet Li’s Blades of the Guardians to Hit U.S. Theaters Feb. 17
Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Blades of the Guardians and will release the Yuen Woo-ping‑directed martial arts epic in U.S. theaters on February 17, the distributor said. The film also marks Jet Li leaving retirement to return to action. Directed by legendary filmmaker and fight choreographer Yuen Woo‑ping (The Matrix, Kill Bill), the historical action film is led by an ensemble that includes Wu Jing, Jet Li, Nicholas Tse, Yosh Yu, JUN of Seventeen and Winwin of NCT.
Wu Jing also served as a producer on the project. Based on the comic by Xianzhe Xu, Blades of the Guardians was produced by Peace Film Production and written by Yu Baimei, Chao‑pin Su, Chan Tai Lee and Larry Yang. The official synopsis says the story is set during the Sui Dynasty under Emperor Yang Guang and follows a skilled mercenary (Biao Ren) on an escort mission across the Western Regions that becomes a perilous scheme.
Doris Pfardrescher, President and CEO of Well Go USA Entertainment, hailed the movie as "masterful," "extraordinary," and "a celebration of martial arts cinema," calling it a sweeping action epic led by legends of the genre and praising Yuen Woo‑ping’s direction and the ensemble. Industry insiders expect Blades of the Guardians to be a massive box office hit in China, with some predicting it could become one of the nation’s biggest-ever releases.
Well Go USA has announced the Feb. 17 U.S. date, but wider U.S.
