Blizzard adds Warlock to Diablo II: Resurrected after 26 years — Kotaku

Blizzard is introducing a new class to Diablo II: Resurrected for the first time in 26 years, with the Reign of the Warlock add-on launching today, February 11. The studio framed the addition as a careful balance between preserving the original game and offering something new for players of the nearly 26‑year‑old RPG.

In a group interview on the Blizzard Irvine campus last month, game producer Matthew Cederquist said the team began with “maybe, I don’t know, three or four [classes] that were top of mind,” then narrowed the choices before settling on the Warlock because the team was most excited about it.

Designer Tim Vasconcellos described the Warlock as a summon‑based blend of melee and ranged combat that occupies space Diablo II’s roster didn’t previously fill, and stressed the effort to make the class feel like it belonged in the original game. That effort includes subtle nods, such as Diablo I icons in the skill tree, intended to make the Warlock feel both familiar and new.
