During Thursday’s State of Azeroth stream, Blizzard announced the Azeroth Interiors invitational contest for World of Warcraft, saying it will run Feb. 17–24 and pair community creators into six teams of “homeowner” and “builder,” executive producer Holly Longdale said. Longdale described the event as a “global renovation challenge” for creators armed with “mood boards and design finesse.” The invitational begins with a Pinterest-style mood board stage, proceeds to the actual builds, and culminates in a final judging livestream featuring walkthroughs of the six entries.

Polygon noted that Blizzard is leaning hard on housing in promotion of the expansion. The State of Azeroth stream also concluded with a housing-themed trailer from Blizzard’s cinematics team, showing an adventurer looting a spiked bracer, returning to a cozy home in a bustling neighborhood, and using the bracer as a stand for a coffeepot.

Blizzard tied the housing push to charity and in-game rewards. The company said its next charity drive will support Habitat for Humanity; players can contribute by buying Roofus, a dog pet that comes with pet décor items. Active subscribers who log in between the stream and the launch of the Midnight expansion will receive a Dark Portal décor item.

The article describes the Dark Portal décor as a recreation of the iconic portal to Outland/Draenor that first appeared in Warcraft II and later featured in Burning Crusade, Warlords of Draenor and WoW’s original login screen.
