Blizzard has put a moratorium on gig economies in its World of Warcraft Anniversary realms, saying it will continue to ban GDKP raids and other business ventures it deems “non-traditional,” a community manager explained in a January 27 post on the Blizzard forums.

Community manager Linxy said the clarification on “in‑game advertising, in part to bring our policies regarding non-traditional services (including 'boosting') in Anniversary realms in line with other versions of WoW.”

Linxy added: “However, 'boosting communities,' especially those who operate across multiple realms, are not permitted,” signaling continued limits on organized cross-realm boosting and similar operations.

The announcement has prompted strong backlash from Classic players on the forums. Commenters called the move “nearly as out of touch with reality as is possible,” said “these people are just delusional,” argued “the ban simply doesn't work,” and warned “Give us back GDKP or people will quit!”

Blizzard also said it isn’t “walking back” plans around combat and UI mods, adding “Our goal was never to stamp out the addon ecosystem.” Players remain skeptical about enforcement and the broader impact of the moratorium.
