Blizzard cuts World of Warcraft transmog prices by half after player backlash
Kotaku reports Blizzard is reducing transmog outfit creation prices by 50% after widespread player outrage over a pre-expansion patch for World of Warcraft: Midnight that launched on January 20. The community manager Linxy wrote on the Blizzard forums, "We're going to lower the cost of outfit creation prices by 50% to bring them more in line with what the prices were prior to the Transmog update," and said the change is under development and should be available within the next day.
The overhaul moved the system from gear-based to slot-based, leaving characters with two outfit slots to start; additional slots previously cost from 100 gold up to almost 800,000 gold to unlock all 20 on a character, and changing individual pieces also carried costs. Community manager Kaivax said removing previously applied transmogs was intentional because of the slot-based shift but called the charge for restoring prior appearances "an oversight," adding that "with the 12.0.1 update before the launch of Midnight, all player-characters will be granted one free Transmog" that will be automatically applied to the next outfit created.
Players continue to complain the new system is convoluted and adds steps compared with the old interface, with one forum commenter writing, "I just opened up WoW and ALL my warriors look ridiculous." Roleplayers in particular say the changes prevent on-the-fly item swaps without paying and harm immersion.
