Blizzard: Don't judge WoW addon disarmament until Midnight
The 12.0 pre-patch restricted the access that user interface mods have to combat information in real time. That change meant addons players depended on for high-end encounters stopped working, and some, such as the popular WeakAuras, were abandoned entirely. The community has been split: some players resent losing key utilities, others enjoy the increased challenge and immersion, and many feel Blizzard’s in-house UI tools still need work.
Associate game director Paul Kubit defended addon disarmament and reminded players Midnight’s content, designed for a post-addon-disarmment world, hasn’t launched yet. "One of the big ones [is] that apex talents unlock for classes, and so classes are going to have a little bit more structure to how they play out," he said.
