Blue Beetle director says Xolo Maridueña's hero could still return
Blue Beetle, played by Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña, was left in limbo when the DC universe was rebooted. Released just as the transition began, the film left Jaime Reyes' future uncertain. Director Ángel Manuel Soto, while promoting The Wrecking Crew starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, said he has had friendly conversations with Peter Safran and John Rickard and noted that James Gunn has called Blue Beetle part of the DCU.
Soto added he doesn't think that chapter has been closed. Gunn has opened the new DCU with animated projects such as Creature Commandos, and Soto said discussions have considered expanding the Reyes family's adventures through animation. He also said he would personally love to make Blue Beetle 2 and 3 and to keep working with Xolo and the whole Reyes family.
