Borderlands 4's planned Nintendo Switch 2 release has been paused. Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis told Variety, "We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU." The pause follows a race to address performance issues with the PC version. Lewis said the company will focus on delivering quality post-launch content and ongoing improvements to optimize the game, and that it is continuing to collaborate closely with Nintendo.

He also noted other upcoming Switch 2 releases from the publisher, including PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26. The Switch 2 port had been publicly demoed last summer at shows like PAX West, with assessments varying: some players said it looked surprisingly good while others reported severe framerate drops, input delay and very low render resolution in docked mode.

Gearbox has outlined a 2026 content roadmap for Borderlands 4, but the Switch 2 port was conspicuously absent.
