Bournemouth took the lead at the Amex Stadium as Marcus Tavernier converted a penalty to make it 1-0 in the 32nd minute of the Premier League fixture against Brighton.

The penalty followed a Bournemouth break in which Tavernier slid a pass to Amine Adli, who knocked the ball past Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen and went to ground. Referee Paul Tierney initially booked Adli for diving, but a VAR review led to the yellow card being rescinded and the spot-kick being awarded. Tavernier placed the penalty into the bottom-left corner; Verbruggen dived the right way but did not reach it. There was a chorus of boos at the Amex after the incident was shown on the screens, with the report noting the decision "could have gone either way".

Bournemouth had further chances, with Evanilson hitting the inside of the far post shortly after the goal in a move that looked fractionally offside. The coverage said Brighton, who had a strong home record this season, had been outplayed in the last half hour.

Brighton made three changes from their previous league game — Joel Veltman, Brajan Gruda and Danny Welbeck coming in — while Bournemouth made one change, Amine Adli replacing Antoine Semenyo. At the time of this report the match was ongoing with Bournemouth leading 1-0.
