Breezy Johnson Engaged at Super-G Finish Line
A U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team social media post announced on February 12 that Breezy Johnson's boyfriend, Connor Watkins, proposed just after she crossed the finish line at Thursday's super-G event in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Watkins, wearing a USA jacket, dropped to one knee at the base of the hill and offered a silver ring with a blue stone as cameras and competitors looked on.
Johnson became visibly emotional, put a hand to her sunglasses and said yes while teammates cheered. Watkins also presented a piece of wood inscribed with the line, "Honestly who are we to fight the alchemy?" — a lyric from Taylor Swift's "The Alchemy." He told NBC he had been planning the proposal for a year and was "really hoping that I could get in the finish area and do it the way I wanted," adding that the moment had "gone above and beyond our wildest imagination." Johnson said she had a hunch he would propose and had mentioned she had long dreamed of getting engaged at the Olympics.
The engagement capped a big week for Johnson.
