Last week Brooklyn Beckham released a scathing statement about his estrangement from his parents, putting his 2022 wedding with Nicola Peltz at the center of the rift. But Preston Bailey, the couple’s first wedding planner, told Page Six he was "surprised" by the rancor surrounding the big day.

In his statement, Beckham accused his mother Victoria of "hijacking" his first dance with Peltz, canceling plans to have her atelier make Peltz’s dress, and said his parents pressured him to "sign away the right to my name" before the prenup. Bailey, who worked with the couple for 11 months and threw their engagement party, told Page Six he saw no tension while planning and described Brooklyn as "a nice, regular person" and "a gentle, decent guy." He said he did not recall Nicola being bossy and noted there was a lot of affection between the pair.

Bailey said he worked with the couple over Zoom or at the Peltz family home, was hired in April 2021 and stepped away 11 months later because his schedule became overbooked, and that he did not have contact with the Beckham family. The article also notes a separate dispute in which Nicola’s father sued a subsequent planning team over a $159,000 deposit; that case was settled in September 2023.
