Former Skyrim lead designer Bruce Nesmith, who left Bethesda Game Studios in 2021, told Press Box PR he thinks The Elder Scrolls 6 may leave the outcome of Skyrim's civil war undefined.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is still early in development, and GamesRadar notes we "don't know much (read: anything) about its story," which has prompted plenty of theorizing and speculation.

Skyrim lets players pick sides in the civil war between the Imperial Legion and the Stormcloaks, and Nesmith was asked how the sequel might handle continuity with those player choices.

In response he suggested a neutral approach, saying: "I would say they will leave it undefined or leave it as neither side really won," reflecting one possible way to avoid locking the series to a single past outcome.

Exactly how Bethesda will address continuity in the sequel remains unclear — with the game early in development, Nesmith's comments are presented as his personal theory rather than confirmation of the studio's plans.
