Bruno Fernandes' X account hacked after United's FA Cup exit to Brighton
Goal reports on Jan 12, 2026 that Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his X account hacked after the club's FA Cup third-round defeat to Brighton; Fernandes played the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 loss.
A series of posts appeared a few hours later on his X timeline, including "Join Macclesfield FC. Excited for the future", a now-deleted message about launching a cryptocurrency that read "This is why I need to get paid more", an anti-INEOS post stating "Let’s get rid of INEOS", sexually charged comments about Cristiano Ronaldo, Alisha Lehmann and adult content creator Bonnie Blue, and an image of United's 7-0 defeat to Liverpool. The club issued an official statement saying: "Bruno Fernandes’s X account has been hacked. Supporters should not engage with any of the posts or direct messages." Most of the posts have now been deleted and Fernandes is in the process of regaining control of his online accounts.
He will, however, be asking his own questions of where United stand and what happens next. The Red Devils severed ties with Ruben Amorim on January 5 and placed Darren Fletcher in interim charge; Fletcher has overseen a 2-2 draw with Burnley and the FA Cup defeat to Brighton.
