Bug cancels two Broadway performances due to illness in company
People reports the Carrie Coon-led Broadway revival of Tracy Letts’s Bug canceled two performances at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Wednesday, Jan. 7 due to an illness in the company; details were not immediately disclosed.
A representative said Act 2 of the day’s matinee and the evening performance were canceled because of the illness. An audience member at the matinee said intermission ran longer than usual before a crew member announced a hold and told theatergoers there were "backstage technical difficulties." Previews began on Dec. 17, 2025, and the production is set to officially open Thursday, Jan. 8.
Directed by David Cromer, the psychological thriller stars Coon as Agnes and Namir Smallwood as Peter, whose characters become isolated in a rundown Oklahoma motel room as discussions of conspiracy theories unfold. The revival, which also features Randall Arney, Jennifer Engstrom and Steve Key, follows earlier stage productions and a 2006 film adaptation.
The show will continue at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and tickets remain on sale, while the nature of the illness within the company has not been disclosed.
