Former child actor Bug Hall — best known as Alfalfa in the 1994 film The Little Rascals — told The Daily Mail he identifies as a 'radical Catholic extremist,' has taken a 'vow of poverty' and moved his family to an 80-acre plot near Mountain View, Ark., intending to live off the grid.

Hall, 40, said he and his wife Jill, married eight years, are raising their four daughters and one son on the property and plan to build a family home with its own hydro-electrical dam, plumbing and electrical systems so they can go completely off-grid. He told The Daily Mail he left Hollywood after an incident in June 2020 when he was arrested for allegedly huffing air duster cans during a visit to his parents in Weatherford, Texas.

Jail records obtained by PEOPLE show he was booked on a misdemeanor possession charge; Hall said he faced no charges and PEOPLE could not locate his criminal record. Hall said the arrest followed relapses after 15 years of sobriety and prompted a turn to faith. In an April 2025 YouTube video titled 'Into the Unknown,' he said his career was no longer 'congruous' with his faith even though he loved film and TV, and that he donated most of his material possessions and all of his savings to live 'as free of any need for an income as possible.' He described himself as a 'medieval moralist' and said he and his wife are homeschooling their children to raise them as 'extremists,' planning to discourage traditional school and college.
