Carrick wants Marcus Rashford back at Man Utd if he gets the job permanently
Interim Manchester United boss Michael Carrick is reportedly keen to bring Marcus Rashford back to Old Trafford if he is appointed permanently, Goal says. Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona this season, with the Spanish champions holding an option to make the move permanent.
At Barca, the England international has impressed, scoring nine goals (five in the Champions League) and providing nine assists in 31 appearances, the report adds. Rashford told media in December that he wants to stay at Barcelona and has settled in well with the club and city. According to The Telegraph, however, it is "hard to see that happening" even if Carrick wants him back.
The report notes former United head coach Ruben Amorim did not want Rashford at Old Trafford, United were keen to remove his large salary from the wage bill, and his contract runs until 2028. It also says Barcelona may face questions over whether they can afford his reported £26 million buy option.
Those close to Rashford say he has "a smile back on his face" at Barca, and coach Hansi Flick has praised his speed, finishing and control and wants him permanently, saying: "I’m very happy with Marcus Rashford." The report adds Rashford faces less media scrutiny in Spain, has been rotated by Flick — making 18 starts in 31 matches — and often competes with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal for starting spots.
