Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick said United would be “bang out of order” to take Fulham for granted at Old Trafford on Sunday after wins over Manchester City and Arsenal lifted them to fourth on 38 points, four ahead of Fulham. Eddie Howe said the protracted Alexander Isak transfer saga is behind Newcastle as they travel to Liverpool on Saturday, with the transfer window still open until Monday night.

Carrick warned there would be no change of approach for Marco Silva’s Fulham, calling it a “tough game, tough challenge” and praising Fulham’s improvement. He said Joshua Zirkzee, who has returned to training and has been linked with a move before Monday’s deadline, is “trying to work to get fit” and that was “literally as far as it goes” for him.

Carrick confirmed Patrick Dorgu will be unavailable for a prolonged period after a muscle problem sustained at Arsenal, adding “it looks a little bit more on the serious, so it’ll be a few weeks for that.” Howe said he did not expect new arrivals before the window closes and pointed to Newcastle’s 1-1 draw at Paris Saint-Germain — which secured a two-legged European playoff against Qarabag — as evidence his team have put recent away struggles behind them.

“It was a high-level, elite, game in Paris,” he said, adding: “My players showed their quality; we’ve proved how good we are away from home. We should have no fears now.” On the fallout from the Isak transfer to Liverpool, Howe said: “We’ve moved on.
