Cash Queens: An 8-Episode Heist Drama Based on a True Story
Cash Queens (Les Lionnes) arrives on Netflix as an eight-part French series inspired by the Gangs de Amazones, the crew of five women who stole from seven banks in southern France in 1989. Driven by financial necessity, the quintet disguise themselves as men and carry out daring robberies; the show blends humor, pathos and vivid color to create a fast-paced binge-watch.
At the center is Rosalie (Rebecca Marder), a single mother who must live on 30 Euros a week after her husband is jailed for laundering money through his restaurant, and Sofia (Naidra Ayadi), another single mother facing the loss of her children unless she renovates her home.
They recruit Rosalie’s cousin Alex (Tya Desluariers), friend Kim (Zoe Marchal) and getaway driver Chloe (Pascale Arbillot) to steal $100,000 from the bank where Rosalie works. Tension builds through personal ties: Sofia’s brother Malik (Sami Outalbali) is a police officer, Chloe’s husband Michel (François Damiens) is a corrupt mayor, and a local mob enforcer has his eye on the money.
