Catherine O'Hara's family to hold private celebration of life after sudden death
Catherine O’Hara’s family said they will hold a “private celebration of life” following the actress’ sudden death at age 71 on Friday. Her team provided an official obituary to Page Six and confirmed the family—including husband Bo Welch and sons Matthew and Luke—will hold the private event in the near future.
O’Hara was best known for roles in the first two Home Alone films and the TV series Schitt’s Creek, and was an alum of SCTV. Page Six noted she was last publicly seen in September 2025 at Apple TV+’s Primetime Emmy Party in Los Angeles, where she celebrated her show with Seth Rogen.
The actress was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital early Friday in “serious” condition and subsequently died, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson told Page Six. Her cause of death has not been revealed; the outlet reported she had a rare condition called dextrocardia. Colleagues paid tribute after her passing.
Seth Rogen wrote on Instagram, “Really don’t know what to say… I told O’Hara when I first met her I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen,” and called working with her “a true honor.” Macaulay Culkin, O’Hara’s Home Alone co-star, wrote, “I thought we had time.
