Catherine O’Hara made an offhand joke about her own mortality in March 2025, asking “Am I dying or something?” during a Los Angeles Times interview with her "The Studio" co-stars, Page Six reported. The remark resurfaced after news that the actress died on Friday, a death her agency, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), confirmed to Page Six as occurring at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness.

The quip came when journalist Matt Brennan asked the cast whether, as actors, they felt they had more of a say or power. O’Hara responded, “I’ve been treated that way lately. Am I dying or something?” Co-stars including Chase Sui Wonders, Seth Rogen, Kathryn Hahn and Ike Barinholtz erupted into laughter, per the report.

Page Six noted that O’Hara had previously told Elle Canada in August 2024 that she felt “lucky [I get] to keep doing things like this at my age — I can’t believe it,” and that she tried to practice gratitude when she felt scared or nervous. She also said she was “nervous” about a cover shoot and marveled at continuing to work “at my age.” TMZ was first to report O’Hara’s death, and Page Six said the Los Angeles Fire Department told the outlet they responded to a call at her home at 4:48 a.m.

and that she was transported to a hospital in “serious” condition.
