Celebrities Wear 'ICE OUT' and 'Be Good' Pins at Golden Globes
Several actors, including Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, Natasha Lyonne and Jean Smart, wore black-and-white pins reading "ICE OUT" or "BE GOOD" at the Golden Globes as part of a campaign backed by the A.C.L.U.
The campaign asked attendees and presenters to wear the pins as a tribute to Renee Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis woman who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on Wednesday; her death drew nationwide protests over the weekend.
A statement for the #BeGood campaign said it aimed to honor Good and Keith Porter Jr., a Los Angeles man killed by an off-duty ICE officer on New Year’s Eve, "while also reminding us what it means to be good to one another in the face of such horror — to be a good citizen, neighbor, friend, ally and human." The pin campaign was organized by people in the entertainment industry with support from MoveOn, the National Domestic Workers Alliance and other advocacy groups.
Celebrities seen wearing the pins on Sunday included Ruffalo, Sykes, Lyonne and Smart; Smart’s "Be Good" pin was visible onstage when she accepted the award for best actress in a television series, musical or comedy. The pins follow earlier awards-show messages such as the black fashion and Time’s Up ribbons worn at the 2018 and 2019 Globes.
