Celebrity deaths 2026: All the stars who died this year
Several prominent figures died in 2026, including actors James Van Der Beek and Catherine O'Hara, "Dilbert" creator Scott Adams, Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, designer Valentino Garavani, and filmmaker Béla Tarr. Scott Adams created the "Dilbert" comic strip, basing the title character on coworkers from a telephone company where he worked in the 1980s.
At its peak the strip ran in more than 2,000 newspapers and spawned a 1999 cartoon series. Adams drew notoriety for blog posts praising Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign, and "Dilbert" was pulled from US papers in 2023 after racist comments; he died on January 13 after a bout with metastatic prostate cancer.
Bob Weir was a founding member of the Grateful Dead, singing and writing on songs such as "Sugar Magnolia," "Playing in the Band," and "Truckin'." After the Dead disbanded he formed bands including Kingfish and Dead & Company; he was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2025 and died on January 10.
